Harrachov – Giant Mountains

Čertova Hora ski resort

Harrachov is situated in the western part of the Giant Mountains on the borderline with the Izera Mountains in the valley of Mumlava River. Its mountainous climatic conditions caused by the closure of the southern side of Čertova Hora (“Devil’s Mountain”) and openness from the northern side by Novosvětský průsmyk (“New World Pass”) predispose the place as a centre of winter sports and recreation. Although the altitude 680 meters above sea level (at the church) is not overwhelming, yet there is some truth in the claims of denizens that in Harrachov it is cold for six months and winter in the other half-year.
